Gothenburg Highlights

Sustainable innovative mindset – awarded international recognitions. Gothenburg, host of the International Symposium and Exhibition on Electromagnetic Compatibility, is a city renowned for its warmth, creativity, and innovative spirit. For five consecutive years the Global Destination Sustainability Index ranks Gothenburg the world’s most sustainable meetings destination. Lonely Planet lists Gothenburg the Best Sustainable City Stay 2021 and Time Magazine ranks Gothenburg among the world’s greatest places to visit 2021. Here we present some of Gothenburg’s highlights that you should not miss!

A gourmet’s dream

Discover Gothenburg’s amazing restaurants, experimental food rebels and trendy bars. The location on the west coast and the proximity to the cold waters of the North Sea make Gothenburg a true seafood paradise, with some of the finest prawns, langoustines and lobsters in the world. The local restaurants stretch from street food via trendy eateries and family-friendly restaurants to Michelin-starred restaurants.

Craft Breweries

There are plenty of micro-breweries making Gothenburg a Mecca for beer lovers. The city is considered the beer capital of Sweden, and it is easy to understand why with at least 40 breweries in the area. Craft breweries like Oceanbryggeriet, Dugges Ale & Porterbryggeri, Poppels Bryggeri, provide the city with high quality beers and ales.

A cherished coffee tradition

The coffee culture is deeply rooted and the daily coffee break is an important part of the Swedish lifestyle. Having a fika, a break for coffee and cake, is pretty much mandatory in workplaces around the country. Gothenburg has many cosy cafés where you can have a “fika” and the traditional cinnamon bun is a popular choice to go with your coffee.

Music for all tastes

The city has a tradition of hosting major events and concerts and the music scene is a mix of international stars, local indie bands and singer-songwriters. Gothenburg is also the home of the Swedish national orchestra and the Göteborg Opera House with a prestigious contemporary dance company.

Easy to explore

You will find everything you need within walking distance in the pedestrian-friendly city centre. Along with trams, busses and ferries there are a rental bike system with seven-speed bikes available at more than 130 stations throughout the city.

Archipelago and Swedish nature

Early September the climate is moderate and a nice time for visit. The Gothenburg archipelago is amazing and by public transport you reach the tranquil islands in less than an hour from the city centre. Explore picturesque fishing villages, small beaches and stunning nature or join a seafood cruise or fishing excursion.

There are also lovely city parks to enjoy and it’s the perfect choice if you only have an hour or two to spend.  Slottsskogen has winding footpaths and a forest with a resident elk and it’s a great choice for a picnic. The Garden Society, with 1,200 different kinds of roses and a palm house, is the most central option, only a stone’s throw from the EMC Europe 2022 venue.

Thrilling rides

Bring the whole family to EMC Europe 2022. Scandinavia’s largest amusement park, Liseberg, is across the street from the conference venue. Another great attraction is the Universeum Science and Discovery Centre, with its huge aquariums, a rain forest and hands-on experiments for the kids.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Gothenburg!
